THE STEM-IT PROJECT
Parkside has exciting plans to create a new STEM-IT zone which will be a cutting edge, creative area and a zone with industry based equipment in the Barn. It will feature 3D printers, robotic arms, a vinyl cutter and possibly a laser cutter. The aim is to create a space within the school that launches pupils from the familiar classroom environment into a creative industry inspired space, which draws upon their previous knowledge of Science, Technology, Maths and IT, yet catapults them into the future. Igniting their interest is invaluable to their education at this stage and ultimately their careers. Our global economy is, and will continue to evolve and as Britain and the rest of the world prepares for a new future, there is no doubt that engineering and technology will play an ever more vital role, increasing demand for highly skilled jobs with strong “STEM” (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) skills.
The STEM-IT Zone project's mission is to Educate, Enhance and Excite all Parkside boys:
Educate: Work collaboratively to teach and guide pupils and staff into the future of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and IT.
Enhance: Revolutionise and develop teaching practices at Parkside by broadening the curriculum and blurring the often strict boundaries between subject areas. This will encourage all to think independently and follow the Growth Mindset initiative.
Excite: Inspire future designers, scientists and engineers by providing a platform to launch STEM-IT from classroom to industry.
The STEM-IT Zone will be used as a showcase of modern technologies including:
